Citation for the Award:

Muses Review gave the award "1st Muses Prize - Best Poetrybook of Year 2004 - Female Category because the poetrybook has a unique approach to poetry in the sense the poetrybook is a book of memoirs in free verse. The poetrybook contains poems about Katie's life from childhood to marriage. It contains poems that are so poignant, sad, angry, emotional  but some poems are based on funny experiences. The book inspires victims of sex abuse  to achieve their  goals despite their dark past.

Homeless

The Beginning of the Tumbling,  p. 4

I thought I went for
my escape to a different home.
Far away from those horrors;
it was my only comfort zone.

Little as I was-
I saw parts of the
man's body, not
comprehending their
harm to my short-lived
bloom immediately or the
devastation of my beliefs
yet to come.

Never understood what
was wrong.... until after
the damage was long
complete and done.
