Nomination Process For:  Best Poem of Year

A. Who may nominate a poem for "Best Poem of Year"?

Any person poet or non-poet alike may nominate a poem for the "Best Poem of Year" for Muses Prize.

B. What poems can be nominated?

Only poems that are published  in chapbooks, poetrybooks or e-books, anthologies  for the "Specified Year"  can be nominated.

For example: the 2nd Muses Prize is for the "Specified Year" 2005. Only poems that are published in the Specified Year - 2005 can be nominated for the Best Poem of Year 2005.

C. Is there a nomination form?

Nomination Forms are for formality purposes. You can just copy the data in the nomination form.

The
Nomination Form has the following data needed:

1. Poem data:

a. Title of Poem:
b. Source: (Title of book, Title of anthology, Title of literary magazine)
c. Why the poem is nominated: (300 words max.)
d. The proof of the poem exists or poem is published in 2005:
(photocopy of the poem, actual book is submitted, photocopy of the pages from the book, etc.)

2. Author data:

a. Name of Author:
b. Short Bio of the Author.
c. Email of the Author: (So that the author will be notified that his/her poem is nominated.)
d. Website of author: (optional)

3. Nominator Data:


a. Name of the Nominator:
b. Email of the Nominator:
c. Short Bio of the Nominator:

D. Where do we submit the Nomination Form?

Send the nomination form by attachment or by email body.

E. When does the "Nomination Period"  begin and end?

Nomination of poems begin in July of a specific year
Nomination of poems end on March of  next year.
The nomination process period  lasts for 9 months.

Example:
2nd Muses Prize Nominations started July 2005 and ends on March 2006. which is 9 months.

F. What happens to the poems nominated during the nomination process?

The poems may be asked to be featured in Muses Review.
The poems are evaluated,  screened and shortlisted.
The poem is place in the official List of Nominees online in Muses Prize or Muses Review.

G. When is/are  the winner/s announced?

The winner "Best Poem of Year" is usually  announced on June or July of the year the nomination process ended..

The winner of 1st Muses Prize was announced two months late in September 2005 because the nomination process started very late in December 2004.

H. What prizes do the winners get?

a. Trophy for the Best Poem of Year. b. Medals for the finalists. c. publicity. d. laurel crowns.

I. What makes a poem successful or a winner?

There is no absolute criteria. Beauty of poem is very relative.
Basic guidelines are: excellent poetic techniques, vivid imagery, memorableness,  etc.
