| Night Owls at Work by Earl Wilcox (Poem submitted previously to Rate My Poem Contest) It little matters the weather, the season, or my moods. Amid dark pines two owls hold nightly fora in the woods. I might discover some dusky muse were I of keener ear, Why their monotone voices drone, noise bereft of cheer. Yet, I ruminate on their constancy in uttering their song. Plaintive, mournful couplets, airing all night long. Perhaps they're not crooning the same song each night. Is it only hooting to high-strung night owls trying to write? Are there variations, subtleties, lyrics eluding my ear? Music made harmonious which more perceptive singers hear? Some say nature's poet's the nightingale, dove, raven, or lark. I say, owls in simple song are lyric laureates after dark. -------------------------------------------------------------- Note: This is to certify that the poem I am submitting is my original work and not copied.
